Pintle and Ringfeder

OK Guys. My question for today, are these couplings interchangeable?
I believe the pintle was mainly military used many years ago. Are the rings similar?
I have a pintle hook on the back of my B61 for towing an old tandem plant trailer.
Thanks. Rod.

From here on in
I no SFA all, with no experience of these hooks

Pintle hooks R very old tecknowledgy th@ dates back to when Noah used m to drag trailers loaded with feed down to the Ark to keep the animals happy for there long voyage

LOL

PINTLE: U had to lift the draw bar up n onto truck connection it is mainly used for military vehicles

::)

RINGFEEDER: Is a tradename of the 1st of this type of hookup th@ was available here in Oz thru Transpec but many other makers now offer the same type of product
U can back into drawbar n it will auto connect n lock just like a a 5th wheel

With all the above mentiond conections U do need safty chains

My two cents worth to ..
Ringfeeder is spelt RINGFEDER The company name.
Because the pintle hook has no oscilation ability the hole in the ring is alot bigger in the eye to allow for this. Rattle, clonk, pig root carry on is about all you feel in the cab with on of these.
Pigs to connect up by yourself.
Coz eye on a 2" pintle is so big it wont fit in a ringfeder coupling mouth.
Pintle pin is mongrel shape so 2" ringfeder eye wont fit pintle hook either. Also if you do get one to go on be carefull you dont go over uneven ground coz you can break pintle off or break eye on hitch.
Know this from experience after travelling 600 k's with truck and stiff bar to tow truck home and bar wouldnt fit. Had pintle eyes on both ends and tow truck had ringfeder. Had to cobble it all together with chains. Ugly but it worked.
Bartlett ball is good for plant trailer as there is no Rattle, clonk, pig root carry but hurt knees when you walk into them in the dark. :D
Ringfeder company also make taperlock bearings. Bit of useless info for you.

Rod, is an issue with these attaching systems, I know SFA about them but had been told the tow weight of some is huge but the shear wieght is in the 1000 kg range. That means if the down load at the drawbar may easily exceed to the tiny 1000 kg as you cross and gutter and footpath or some other high low point.... the coupling may fail, been some serious major collisons when it happens at speed.

Just something else to worry about when you are hooking up.

behind my furniture truck i often hook up my triaxle trailer (4.5 ton gvm)the trailer has a "ringfeeder" type conection ..ive made my own towbar setup for the truck ..basically just a hardened pin that goes through the eye on the trailer conection ..the secret seems to be get the height of the trailer conection as close as possible to the truck height then the trailer wont buck like a mule behind the truck ...

The hook and pintle is good for trailers that go off road because it will articulate a lot further than a ringfeeder. They do clunk a little but easier to hook up than a 50mm ball if it is slightly out of line. You can buy ( via Hayman Reese I think ) the hook business that also includes a 50mm ball for smaller trailers.
