In May, YT took delivery of a new Scania breakdown truck, coded R10 in its fleet.
This one is heaver than the previous R10, and is capable of pushing the new, longer, E-class trams (delivery of which has commenced).
An earlier R10 was on an AEC chassis, and has appeared in a different thread in the hcvc forum.

Two photos of the new one are at:

Traditionally, track work was supported by a range of vehicles: those doing the work (steamrollers, excavators etc), and those providing a base for the workers. Often these were retired buses, set up as meal rooms. The would be trailer-style portable toilets, and the ubiquitous air compressor & power generator.

This view shows a modern worker-transport or meal-room vehicle, with accommodation for tools. It was in conjunction with track relaying. Since privatisation, it may belong to a contractor rather than to Yarra Trams.

This is in Chapel St, St Kilda, opposite Astor Theatre, and is another crop from a photo by Jeff Bounds.

Rod,

If you photo shopped that scene to take the modern car and road sign out it could have been taken in the 30's.

PininFarina or Bertone certainly were not consulted by the prime body builders, Kennels-R-Us.
