buying a new truck

Well I have finally done it. After 21 years of driving clunkers for a living.
I put a $1000 deposit down on a new truck. 3 week wait for it to come from Japan. Too late to sway me now, but any opinions?
Using it as a cbd paper recycling truck.
Hino 300 series 916 hybrid.
4 litre turbodiesel hybrid electric with amt.

It is replacing a '94 dyna that had a 7000kg gvm, so an 8000kg gvm truck SHOULD be able to handle the load better. Fuel savings WOULD be nice but the 2 primary reasons for choosing this model is the constant torque from 0rpm to redline.
And a useless left leg which is no good for clutch operation. AMT = no clutch pedal.

Test drove one at Sandown and it seemed to go fine. Not much different to a normal diesel auto.

I'll just be happy to have a work vehicle where I dont have to worry about breakdowns all the time. I figure the repayments will be about the same as the ongoing repairs on the old truck. Anyone want some parts for an old dyna?

How much extra was the hybrid version ? They are talking fuel savings of 10%.

From the experiences I have heard about the real world savings are around 25% on the smaller hybrid hinos but nobody seems to have anything to say about the 916 model. Cant do a straight comparison against any other model but the closest would be the 816 auto (7300gvm). Price premium is $7000. I should be able to make up the difference in 4-5 years of running as a worst case dcenario. Hopefully.

Just an update:
After delay after delay it is finally on the road.
Did my first 9 hour shift with the new truck and it seems to be all right. Just a few tweaks to get it up to speed.
Will post an update once I have broken it in a bit.

Update number 2:
Done 2000 km so far.
First "country" trip yesterday - Perth to Gingin.
First 1000km, very disappointed with performance. Next 1000km BIG shift towards being a driver friendly torque band.
Any thoughts/experiences as to how long it takes for a fresh engine to fully break in?
Still waiting on fuel economy improvements.
:P

Engine break in depends on the engine itself and how hard you push it.

Just wondering, is it like the cars where the engine cuts in and out, say between traffic lights?
