Saw a turf harvester working and took some pic's.
The guy driving the machine mentioned there are only 2 of this model in Australia with the other one in W.A.

Hi alby, When I was a kid I used to cut turf with a spade , into squares, hand load onto the old Bedford go to the house lay the lawn on the soil we dug up and delivered and de rooted the day before ,watered and rolled the lawn then went to the glen hotel on the way home and had a double sars with my dad and the neighbour who was the turf farmer. when he got a motorized turf cutter we thought we were in Hevan !!

I used to work for a turf farm, they had a three wheel version of that machine. The cutter head and rolling gear was mounted on the side, and the stacker was behind the cab. It had a John Deere engine, 5 cyl I think, the first of the mechanical common rail. It was very interesting to watch working, but also very maintenance intensive. It had alot of analogue position sensors, countless grease nipples, a wiring loom with a thousand white wires with no numbers and very little product support as it was an imported machine. But having said that, when it was going, it could cut the turf faster than the team could lay it.
