Buying a late model truck, need some advice was created by 2minuteTim
Gents, I am an avid reader of this forum and am overwelmed by the knowledge here.
We are looking at buying a late model tautliner at work and I have to put some numbers together and am having some trouble.
Need to know how much the annual rego (including every bloody thing the RTA adds on) for a 6x4 Tautliner. It will have a sleeper and a GVM of 23500kgs.
Then need to know the price of a 2 axle dog and a 2 axle pig to enable us to know which way to go.
Thanks guys, really appreciate any and all of your feedback.
regards Tim

There's a difference between states, as regards rego costs, due to variations in state insurance charges, and individual state additional charges & taxes.
You will also need the weight of the vehicle/trailers (rego fees relate to tare of the vehicle), dimensions, and axle spacing distance, to see if they meet rego requirements for the particular category.

Sounds like you are in NSW. I recently had issue with them over hiking fees up on primary producer alleged concession and went through member of pariament. They are a secret society and there is no way you you can refer to a chart or web site and work it out yourself. The only way is to draw up each spec, and take it to a registry and say how much? It will take them about 10 mins to work out the cost for each variation so don't expect a red carpet welcome.

Without sounding like an A$%^
why don't you call the relevant authority in your state?
You will get up to the minute accurate information.
In Victoria, you can go to the Vicroads site and get the costings there.
There is a charge for a rigid vehicle, going on the amount of axles. BUT that same vehicle will be dearer if nominated to tow a trailer!
No nomination....you get booked back to the gross of the vehicle towing it.. Whether its empty or loaded..
2 axle dog can legally carry more than a 2 axle pig so take that into consideration when doing the sums also.
(in victoria ..15t on a pig 18t on a dog, same rego cost as it goes on axles)
There are also different rates between 3 axle prime movers and 3 axle rigids. Nominated or not..
Hope this helps, but call the relevant parties if you are doing sums prior to purchase, all states are different
