Old tractor wanted

Old tractor wanted was created by Lang
The Caboolture War Plane Museum needs an old tractor (or better still an aircraft tug) to tow their aircraft around the airfield. They fly the Mustang and Wirraway on a regular basis. Towing power need not be great but real low speed is required.

Unfortunately being a volunteer organisation they are talking in hundreds not thousands. Anything that runs would do, of any age. it does not matter how rusty or beat up the tinwork is, the boys can work on that but they are not into mechanical rebuilds. The current tug, which is leaving, only does a couple of hours a week.

Within striking distance of Brisbane. Any leads much appreciated.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationBrennan,

If they are the ones on Ebay they are out of the price range. I would appreciate any info you can find out.

One just as good as these, also in Brisbane, sold on eBay yesterday for $850 (we found out about it too late)

Gday Lang,
would a 'modified' forklift to the job?
Older units are available at the right price..

Just thinking underneath the square a bit...

Chocs,

If they were on hard surface might just be OK but a couple of problems. The aircraft are towed with A frames so the fork would have to operate backwards with rear steering but most importantly it is a grass airfield and a forklift gets bogged if it has to climb a matchstick or someone spits on the ground.

A woman in a tight dress and 6 inch high heels has twice the cross-country ability of a forklift!

Any other ideas are always welcome.

This is the museum at Caboolture with the Mustang. The tug is going to new home so it has to be replaced.

No worries thanks Lang.

Was thinking weight and road speed, wasn't thinking about 'off road' use.

Hi Lang
Have they thought of an old LandRover. When I was in the airforce its what we used to tow Hunters (even on grass as crash recovery)Hunter would be half as heavy again as a Mustang.
Paint it blue and put some roundels on it,will look the part
Point of interest the LR,s we used were the lightweight ones with the chopped down mudguards etc
Cheers Lyn
