Grasslands Forage Harvester

Last year I purchased a Grasslands Series 700 Forage
Harvester which I have recently returned to working
order.
These machines were a product of "Grasslands Farming
Equipment " Villawood NSW and were marketed from
about 1956, being the first machine of this type to be
manufactured in Australia, a unique feature was that the
6-7 cu yard forage cart and the harvester were combined
making for a one man operation.
Would like to hear from anyone who may have had experience with these machines. Thank You.

G'day D8H, We had two of those machines in the early 1960's and used them for making silage from lucerne in above ground bunkers. I had a bit to do with them but were mostly operated by a couple of cousins. From what I re-call they worked pretty well and didn't give too much trouble.
Cheers Geoff

D8H, Good morning Mate, I don't know if I'm the only one, or maybe others are not showing their lack of knowledge here either, but "What is a Grasslands Forage Harvester".
I'm not a tractor bloke & I have no idea what your piece of equipment looks like, would you be able to post some photo's please,& maybe a description of what it does. Cheers Tim :)

A Grasslands Forage Harvester was PTO driven, with a 5ft flail type cutter, the cutter and forage cage were set
up as a unit thus differing from other machines which
required a forage trailer. They were simple but unique in
their design.
Anyone interested in a photo send a personal
message with your postal address, hope to get some good photos of it working this week.

tim, in very simplistic terms a forage harvester is a mower with a catcher, usually the catcher was a sperate trailer, the idea being to mow a crop or grass when it was ready, and pack it away still damp, as silage, usually in air tight pits.

Hay was easier and I believe needed less understanding .... same crop/grass but cut withy a different type of mower a few weeks later and stored dry.

some pics would be a great thing D8H
