I have a Moffat Virtue Petrol motor Serial No.7579 which I am guessing is pre 1942(?) as from searching on the net the only one I found had a serial No of 9000+ & said it was a 1943 model. I believe they made around a 1000/yr.
Mine has been restored some years ago but I have never had it running. Does anyone have any idea of a fair price to advertise it at or is anyone on the forum interested

Gidday fella,
I just sold a couple of Moffets for $350 each, turn over, complete but not running for $350 each. Buyers thought it was fair.
Sold an Alamo open crank and left it open to offers expecting 400 or 500 for it....bloke offered $2000...sold
Seems the going open crank engines are thin on the ground.

Hi Basil, thanks for that. What serial No.s were the ones you sold? Found one on Grey's auction site sold for & 359 +gst+15% premium. I guess I should be looking at slightly better than that?
Cheers Gary
(running out of money on my AR110 rest so it has to go :-[)

Some pix I thought I should post, motor also comes with what I believe is a period creamer drum by Joyce Manuf. & small remote mount fuel tank.
Note- no water tank, this model I am led to believe had a wall mounted tank supplied be purchaser?

Hi Basil
The 'Alamo' is considered a rare American engine and you might have been done over even at that price
Seems the going open crank engines are thin on the ground
Unrestored open crank engines are a bit thin on the ground, BUT if you want a restored one they are ever where and cost $$$$ a 8hp AP Hornsby open crank (a lot more of them than Alamo) will cost you about $4,000, a very common 2hp Champion (restored) cost $1,700 Ect
