Alaska Highway

This is a really outstanding WW2 film in full colour of the construction of the Alaska Highway - one of the great engineering feats of WW2.
Lots of close shots of numerous bits of machinery working for the tractor people and lots of great truck stuff as well.
Runs for 35 minutes but downloads quick enough for most people to watch direct without the usual stop-start of many videos.

Tim,
The Alaska Highway is still in action - still just a simple fairly narrow road in most places. Not a bad road now but still takes a lot of maintenance. At the top end it is built over permafrost which is starting to melt leaving the roadbase unstable with big "waves" that break up at the end of summer. The Canadians and Americans keep it open all year around with snow blowers etc.
We drove it a few years back in a Fiat 500. If you are interested you can go on our web site

Just scroll back down on the archives in the blogs in the "Latest News" section to see some photos and read the story.
