May be an idea to check that the flywheel is on tight
while you have it pulled down. Have heard that they can
be a source of trouble.

Got my parts from the U.S. Brad honed the bores cleaned the pistions fited the rings now we need a big ring compreser the one we have is ont big enough J.D. 6-1/8in bore and i would like one big enough to do a P bulldog 10-1/4in bore we will try and buy one in Bundaberg today

Big Bully factory Lanz ring compressor was a 1-ring at a time job.
Piece of 3/8" square bar rolled to the correct diameter, then with each end bent out at 90 degrees to form handles.
Had the big micrometer to measure the piston diameter buried somewhere too.
Lost the set-to-length bar so it wasn't much use.

Thanks Jeffo we may have to make a ring compreser for the Bulldogs the J.D 730 rings are close together i will let you now how we get on

when i put the pistons back in my john deere D model, i just joined 2 say 4inch hose clamps together to make a big one , it would not matter if you joined 4 together , all you need to remember is to be clean , i just went in 1 ring at a time ,but if you wanted to ,if you got some thin sheet of tin or some thing to wrap aroung the rings and put a couple of clamps around the outside of that , plenty of oil to let it all slip

Rainy day 57mm so we put the 730 together today it started and run nice we have to replace bottom water pipe and top exhust bend while we have the bonnet off
