Cooper head gaskets was created by
I'm asking the experts on what your all think i need a new cooper gasket (head) and I have read I can use the old one as long as it dosnt have tears etc.

They say if I use silver paint that will seal it up and the gasket can be used many times as long as it's in good nick. Dave

I aint one but I new one once!

Ifn u're talkin bout the copper gasket th@ is 2 sheets of copper with asbestos sheet in btween the copper
this may B u're lucky day
my memory has clikd in
I've never tried this
wot U do is clean the said gasket as good as possable with out damage n it
1/4 fill the bath with hot water
place the gasket flat n submerged for a day or 24 hours wot ever cums 1st
spose U muight have 2 go with out a bath for a day
but I wont tell any body
LOL
the asbestos in B tween the sheets absorbs the water n xpands a little n makes the gasket gro in thickness bout 1/8 of a bees dik width
n when U tension down the gasket it squeezes the water out n spose 2 B like new
ButEyEDoSt&2BCorrected

Let us all no how U go

(Duz it really work)
I'd really only suggest the above when all avenues of gettin new gasket is exhausted

U're gasket may B made of unobtainium
th@ big word Unobtainium I got from onetrack

LOL

Deadly,
I hear that some people paint gaskets with silver paint, but VHT make a product called 'Copper Coat' which is really good stuff for helping gaskets seal (Not just copper ones). You can buy it at Repco, Autobarn, Super Cheap etc....

wont matter how much it soaks up any thing - if the seal ring or fire ring is crushed to much or corroded away then it wont seal on compresson. in the TOMM magazine the is a bloke in hornsby -syd who will make or copy any head gasket ,, he wanted around $100.00 for a gasket to fit a 4 cyl with about 4 to 5 inch bore, let me know and i can track down the add.. :)

Dave

That VHT is what you need to use.

AS IT HAS BEEN TESTED ON RACING ENGINES, just like your's

Information on the man in Sydney would be great as i just pulled the head of my Lycoming engine and it has a copper gasket to.

I seem to remember that copper gaskets were heated when re-using them, something about 'sofening' (is that a word? ;D ) the copper. Then, when you torqued up the head or whatever a certain amount of 'crush' would occur.

Don't ask me I only work here :)

G'day Dave, Auto Surplus in Thornton Cres Mitcham can make new head gaskets as long as you have a sample to give them.
