Carbie replacement.

I've two questions,

The Carter carbie on my 318 need replacing or rebuilding.
I'm hearing put a "Holley on it. Holleys are cheapest to run Holleys are more reliable" by a handful of blokes.

The motor is set up for gas but not connected yet.

What do you all think?

Second question. I picked up a spare AT4 cab over Christmas. Someone has splashed spary paint on the chrome strips that I need off the guards.

How do I get spray paint on Chrome without scratching it?

Thanks Todd

On my Inter I used a razor blade paint scraper and it lifted straight off with no damage to the chrome.

Other tricks are paint remover, scrape gently, then get the hard bits with a plastic pot scouring pad.

It really depends on the condition of the chrome underneath. the better condition it is in the easier the paint comes off

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

Acetone will usually remove light paint coverage.

I have used Gun cleaner to great effect, it is available from most spare parts stores, but dont get it on any painted items you wish to keep pristine ;)

Kenny-Mopar,

I am getting 25L / 100ks with the Carter.I think a 600 will cost far too much to run. Or am I wrong?

Prob will find the Holley is a little cheaper to run as much more efficient & the extra 2 barrels open progressively unlike a Holley " double pumper" I used to run interstate in a dodge 690 with a warm 318 with a Holley on top

I had a 318 VE ute (was factory 273 - very rare) had a WW on it running so lean the exhaust was white. I put the proper Carter on it and lost no economy (went to light grey - yes it was some years ago - remember tuning by the exhaust colour?) The Carter was simple to rebuild and gave no trouble and everything fitted properly. No made-up linkages, or what.
Having said that, it still only did 14 MPG local and 19 on a gentle country run was the best I ever got.

Jarrod.
