This photo is from a number recently donated to our historical society. It shows a machine in a Collinsville, Q open cut coal mine probably in the 1950s. This machine was from Davis Contractors who were operating the Coal Mine at that time. Anyone recognize the make and other details of this machine. I thought it was a dragline but maybe it is a shovel. The print was quite small so not a lot of close detail shown. Also interested in any info on the vehicle with only a small area of the front caught in the photo.
Regards, Gerry.

I would say face Shovel, I have worked on a few modern ones over the years, on mine shutdowns as a electrician, you would be able to put most of that one in the bucket

I agree, it is a Face Shovel.
I think the name you were looking for is Bucyrus.

I expect the photo dates from earlier than the 1950's as the car is a Ford Model A, that was made between 1928 and 1931.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I know nothing about the shovel, but agree that the vehicle is a Ford Model A.

I think it has "Marion" on the boom..............the works dont look like a Bucyrus Erie or a RB ,who made the empire version.

Damn, but you blokes must have wonderful eyesight!
I cannot even make out the spelling on the shovel boom!
So Having had a little to do with them, albeit many more years than I care to admit to, I'm gonna plump for Ruston-Bucyrus over Bucyrus-Eire, and this after nuch consideration!
(And the toss of a coin!)
Ask the Swishman!
Prolly moved one or two over the years.
I'm also guessing maybe a one to one and a third cubic yard??
What sez youse??
