The Comet was a genuine Leyland with a ground up design in the late 40's. The cab was shared with Ford and Dodge, The 300 engine design was contracted to Napier and grew and grew over the years until it became the turbo 411. The cab over comet didn't arrive until about 1952

Goes like a new one but has a chain on the front bumper?
However, very cool to see one in what looks like good nick. Don't see many around and I've never seen a restored one in the flesh. Have heard a lot of stories about these in NZ from Howard P. but don't recall any Australian stories.

Andy,
If my memory serves me well I think you took a picture of the comet at truck wreckers before it got the chop.
It was behind the KW we were fiddling with.
Gone to heaven now.

Plenty of them still around, 2 sold at recent clearing sale at Mallalley (went to Victoria). This one in same district.
This one at Elsmore
Re Aussie stories; page 18 of Graham Edge' book is picture of one with trailer at top of Conroys hill, rated at 22.5 gvm. The owner, John Davis, is quoted as saying "opened up to rev at max 3,400.... at which it was a very impressive truck"
