I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.

Pretty ordinary conveyance, I reckon,
W.J. George out of Sydney had a couple of single drives , carting carbon black to Brisvegas, up the old New England, hard going up the Moonbie's, Black Mountain and a few other places!
About the only redeeming feature was the weren't uncomfortable to drive.
From memory, only about 190 pit ponies.
Bloke I knew had the bogie drive V8, forerunner to the first of the Iveco's, went only so -so, used to be pretty unreliable and hard to get parts for.
Had a 15 speed bus R/Ranger deep reduction now factory fitted, needed every one of 'em!

When I worked for Panucci they had one and they ended up parking it way down the back of the yard, because it was cheaper than sending it out and having to repair it, and parts were a big problem.

I'll second that!! one of the main problems was air the compressor was always burning out the butterfly valves. nearly everything was air operated. Drivers were baffled why Bruno bought them because they had a sleeper , as he only bought day cabs .most likely he got them super cheap

A few years ago I would have given $6000 to get the 70,s roof air con, but I gave up trying to get a strait one and put a late model red dot on,

Yeah when Fiat pulled out of the truck market in Australia unannounced they made parts almost impossible to get
But times have changed and we have the internet today and parts are pretty easy to get from anywhere around the world
I reckon it was 20 years from when Fiat stopped until Iveco started in Australia
Fiat was the largest diesel engine manufacturer in the world for many years
I think the 6 cylinder was about 260 hp and V8 350
They were okay but left sour taste in everyones mouth when the pulled out of Australia leaving owners high and dry
The last of them had Hendrickson back ends and roadrangers from new

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

FIAT. Fix It Again, Tony.
A couple of years ago, I took an old mate who, before he retired had a truck brake repair shop and a Fiat tractor dealership. He was keen to see it as he had restored three trucks and was looking for something else. He looked at this one, said "Huh." and got back in the car.

Southbound, when you photographed that Fiat, you were two left turns away from a great collection of (mostly unrestored) trucks and restored MG's, Morrises and a Wolseley, plus talking to a couple of enthusiasts while sitting and having coffee or tea.
Next time you are heading down that way, PM me for the address. Anyone else coming near Phillip Island is welcome also.
