Dear All,

I am looking for an International AB120 4X4. I was wondering if anybody out there might have some leads.

Also I was wondering who might know if there was a AB130 4X4?

Cheers David

I think it was only the AB120 and AB160 that came in 4x4. I put together a summary of all the IH models at the back of the ACCO book and didnt come across any reference to an AB 130 4x4.
Perhaps the full model number should be ABW120 because Inters used to use the letter W to indicate 4wd.
Any more info anyone ?

Thanks for that. I am looking for an International as that is what my father drove in the early sixes. He was unsure if it was a 120 or 130, but it was a 4X4. He used them in National Mapping doing survey work in QLD and we have photos, but the only shot of the badge is not quiet clear.

Do you know if AB120 4X4 came in both wheel bases. I have an orignal brochure, and it states that AB110 and AB120 had the option of two wheels bases? Not sure if the 4X4 came in both or not!

Thanks for the help.

David,

Might not have been clear from the previous post but atkipete was talking aobut Internationals!

International's full name is International Harvester or IH. And ACCO was just another range of International Trucks.

I haven't heard of an AB110 4x4. Will check my books at home but as Atkipete says that the AB120 was the main one that came out with the 4x4 option. Not sure about wheel base as I haven't seen much of those details.

Would be really good to see copy of the picture. (See the forum FAQ on how to post picture)

Must admit I have seen a couple of C series 4x4 inters (equivalent size to the AB120's) and have seen a couple of 4x4 Acco's but haven't seen anything earlier making the rounds :-/ They must be out there!

Just be aware if you do find a 4x4 inter generally they seem to have had a hard life so check out the frames well! Will keep my eyes open for you.

Dear JBlair,

Thanks for that, sorry for the confusion, I am also talking about IH's.

I think atkipete is correct, that the 4X4 is only on AB120 & AB160, and Dad is unsure anyway about the AB130 4X4.

The wheelbase question is only come about from the original brochure I have. It advertises both wheel bases available for AB110 and AB120. I will try and scan the brochure.

Dad has quiet a few action colour photos from the 60's during his time in National Mapping. Mostly set in outback Qld, they include both the AA and the newer AB series. I have them on DVD and will try up load if people are interested. Nice to see them when they where new!

Cheers David

Love to see a couple of those photos David!

Had a look in My AB manuals. And only mentions the following models as having 4x4 front axles. They are the Scout 80, AB120 and the AB160.

Sorry no information about options of wheel bases.

Inters did a lot of specials, ie different wheelbases, engines and transmissions,, particularly for government departments.
In the later C series there are three 4x4 types listed C1300 GVM 8800lbs, C1300 HD ( dual rear wheels) GVM 12300lbs and C1600 CVM 20000lbs.

Hi David, I don't know if there was an AB-120 but there was an AB-130 available in both 114" & 126" WB with either utility or panel van body. About 3 or 4 years ago I saw an AB-130 ute, 126"WB at Kingston SE in SA. It appeared to be "parked" but looked in good restorable condition.

Dear All,

Just to update an old post. I have managed to confirm that IH did make an AB130 4X4. It seems the AB130 4X4 was not directly related to the AB130 2WD. Different chassis size, length etc.

I confirmed the AB130 4X4 when I bought spare parts manual off ebay. It is listed in the models covered by the parts manual. From what I can workout by comparing part numbers etc, an AB130 4X4 was an upgraded AB120 4X4. They shared the same 126 wb, but the 130 version had bigger brakes, springs, axles etc. This would agree with Dads account that they broke many such parts on the 120, and had an upgrade to an higher number which was the 130. I have said sorry for questioning his memory!

I now have also bought a copy of an original flyer for the 130 4X4.

Cheers

David
