*HISTORY*
This truck has an interesting history. I have all paperwork from Mack USA. Old photos available
This truck is one of two export specials built RHD at Allentown, Pennsylvania USA in 1975 and imported by Motor Truck Distributors of New Zealand and sold to
Dales Heavy Haulage (Division of Freightways).
The truck was used in extra heavy haulage work moving monster loads all over New Zealand. Up to 500T with sister truck. (see last 3 pics)
It was brought to Australia around 1985 and continued doing heavy haulage around Victoria for DiFabro Constructions.
The truck originally left MACK USA with a yellow cab and black chassis and was then painted orange and red for Dales. It was repainted again in Australia.
This truck has been featured in books, vintage newspaper articles and can also be seen on Youtube. See the very popular "Mack R700 V8 Start up" & other videos.
This is a Classic R model built back when MACK meant "The greatest Name in Trucks"
The sister truck in NZ is in a poor wrecked condition making this truck even rarer.

Looks like it's about normal width Swishy. They wouldn't be able to register it any where in Australia if it wasn't. Queensland won't allow it, and I'm sure the rest are the same, except for floats etc under permit, but the prime mover has to be under 2.5m.Looks like its just got bigger hubs.

In the E bay pictures, there is one towards the end that is an overhead shot and it looks like the back is as wide as the front. I've seen some off road ones that are definatly over width at the rear.

I would have thought that if the truck as it stands is overwidth, the seller would have mentioned that. Even though it's shod with 12.00 x 24 tyres, they are very close together and very close to the chassis. All the Mack trucks I've seen that were overwidth, were overwidth across the wheels/tyres, and this was because they were shod with 14.00 x 24's.
I'd say the mention of "subject to overdimensional permit (width)" relates to the GCM.
In other words, they are saying that 184,272kg is the maximum GCM, but that GCM is subject to overdimensional permit requirements and stipulations.
Pretty neat and historic old rig .. but with a buggered cab, and the requirement for a replacement cab .. plus that mongrel 866 motor .. he could have trouble finding a buyer at $12,000.
The 866 V8 is as unreliable as they come, that motor nearly broke Graeme Bell (of Bellways fame), who ran a sizeable number of them. His blokes just couldn't keep them running for long enough to make any money out of them.
As for the restoration . .well, you'd have to ask why the bloke who is selling it, hasn't restored it? Could it be, that he's figured out, that by the time a replacement cab is sourced and fitted, and everything else on it, fixed .. it could run into more than the truck would ever be worth?? .. :
