Hi.

I was looking at a J1 but stumbled across this 1955 Bedford that I assume was the model before the J1.

I am going to look at it this week and hopefully bring it home.

Any info that you can give me with regards to model, tare, gross etc etc would be great.

Thanks.

Mark

I think it is a TA model. Looks in remarkable condition for age.

Apparently it runs and drives fine.

If it does it will be on the trailer and on it's way home with me.

It could be the later D model (1956?) - hard to tell apart from the A. The 16" wheels tell us it is the A2 or D2 30cwt model. Tare weight will be similar to the J1, whatever that is.

We have a D1 and D4 in our collection. The D1 has small BMC style parking lamps on top of the guards, but the D4 has the bigger lamps.

As subject vehicle has only singles on the rear, doesn't that make it a A1/D1? IIRC the -2 had dual 16" on the rear. IDSTBC without checking out the spec sheets.

We had a similar unit (1956 I think) as the family car back in their day - bought new. I think it was rated as 15CWT. Was their a 15 & 30cwt models with single rear wheels?

Ours had different park lights on the front guards - other than that - the mirrors (I think ours only had one) was mounted on the door (see the unused bracket/mount in the photo above) - and the mirror head was round.

It had 16" disc wheels - similar to the one in the photo.
