Hi all,
I'm new to the forum looks like lots of information and enthusiasm on here.
I've just bought a 74 Atkinson it's got a 903 cummins in it does anyone know wether they came out with this motor and a 9 speed R/R in it .
Seems to go alright just needs a clean up.
Only going to use it for truck shows etc, I'll put a couple of pics up soon.
Cheers
Jeff

Gudday Jeff and welcome

Mate I know SFA about anything and everything but I think the BIG Circle A machine was a custom built jigger so no doubt would have at some stage

Hi Jeff,

They definitely had the V903 as an option in '74. You cound certainly get Gardner 6LXB and 8LXB, GM 6/71, 8V71, Cummins NHC250, NH220, NTC270T, NTC335 and V903. Gearboxes listed were RTO910, RTO9513, RTOO913, RTO1213 and RTO915. Doesn't mean a 9 speed wasn't an option, but it may also have been fitted later.

1975 Atkinson, 180HP 6LXB Gardner, RTO910, 34000lb Rockwell on camelback

Back in the day(as they say on reality TV) the 9 speeds wernt popular, and as new boxes were available as takeouts for around $400.A lot of fleet buyers changed them for 13s.

Thanks guys, trouble at the minute ,won't start, turn key key and it s just clicking.
It has a isolator switch box and it's clicking inside this. The terminals are clean and tight and the batteries are good .
Any ideas or tests I could do to narrow down the cause..
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Jeff

give the solenoid a good whack

or perhaps a stuck brush on the starter motor

or just crook batteries

That truck should have a 12/24 volt system ie 24 volt start and 12 volt running.
