That trailer is seriously well tied down.

On the Nullarbor truck train they just used sisal ropes twisted with a stick of wood.

This one must be special as they have given him a couple of chains as well as the twisted ropes.

Interesting photo Lang.

Those Mini's are 40mm longer than a Waratah (the latest Sydney passenger cars) is wide so not as big a load as it looks.

Well over acceptable road width for a devisable load.

My guess is the trailer had to be around 11 metres long.

Yes, they seemed to use a mix of rope and chain.

Here are a couple of photos of a skinnier me with my Commer (slightly overloaded). You can see both ropes and chains. You can see the sticks on the front ropes.

How did the truck and load cope with the trip?
Back when I worked for a rail car manufacturer, they won a contract for some Westrail suburban units.
Due to the gauge problems, we had to swap them onto slave bogies for the trip across, they were ordinary goods wagon sprung bogies.
By the time the units arrived, all sorts of items had shaken loose. Really big stuff like aircon units, brake compressors etc that were on rubber mounts.
First thought was they'd been pinched when parked up at a siding but gangers reported of these big items on the side of the track, totally destroyed.
