Good old Leyland Motors Australia !
I've seen the 8X4 Contractors;the Beavers with a short door LAD cab and the steer axle moved forward;Aust.Factory 8X2 Albion Clydesdales and the Low weight Hippos from the late 60s.And I own an Aust. AEC Mustang (Leyland Comet with an AEC engine, gearbox and AEC chassis no.) built in both Melb and Sydney.
But this is the first I've ever seen or heard of one of these...........
It appears to be a 30EH.6R Super Hippo with a factory twin steer set up.
All Leyland parts used. C/n 902483 which makes it somewhere around 1975.
Originally fitted with a 690 (as opposed to a T680), RTO 9513 Roadranger although both motor and gearbox have long gone.
This one located in the long grass in WA

Damn. First one I've seen too. Haven't even seen period shots of one banging away. Nice one, Rufo.

I can vouch for seeing one Scammell Contractor in Melbourne c1984 and it was an 8x4 with 400 Cummins power in Fleetexpress colours for Heavy Haulage. Interested to know what happened to it since then - Swishy?? Would this be the one that you mentioned that Hi-Haul had????
The unit you've pictured looks similar, yet I don't think its the Scammell I've mentioned.
Cheers
Rob

Rob365,
I believe the Hi-Haul Contractor is a 6X4 - there's a pic and a link to their internet site here:

and some info on the 8X4s here:
