I don't know about elephant race, it reminds me of a turtle or snail race.

my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

This would have to be free admission, wouldn’t it?? Surely no one would be that hard up for entertainment to actually pay at the gate!
But then again, they are Seppo’s, the same lot who bought us things like Jackass, roller derby not forgetting truck drag racing. Now there’s a trifecta that would gladden the heart of a fun starved soul, like sewerage swimming, watching blow flies copulate and living with your mother-in-law.
