For those who might be interested the Dakar Rally starts this Sunday night usually on SBS so if interested check your local guides. Dee and I love all the various sections of the race but obviousl the trucks are by far the best. Only problem is in the past they only have a couple of minutes of them right at the end. Kamaz have dominated for many yers and Tatra are up there as well and Iveco along with Hino put in an appearance. To see 6wd trucks getting air over sand hills is a sight to be hold. There are 2 Aussies that I know about, TOby Price on the bikes and a young lady name forgotten already but was commentating at Bathurst race is driving as well. Usually around 2 weeks in length and this year it is in the UAE and not South America again.
The picture below is a sewon badge from the Rally but bought online. Lang will also notice the other badge as well, the Catalina.

Be it firearms or V8 engines, the question is not "why should you have them?"
, but "who are you to demand that I justify them?"
I sent several emails over the last few years requesting more coverage of the trucks, but so far have never received a reply. Oddly enough, an inquiry to the same address regarding possible advertising during the event was replied to within the hour!

I also love the Dakar and have watched every one since the first. Unfortunately the coverage is now so disjointed and filled with 50% rambling interviews with the drivers instead of the race it is becoming a "reality tv" show.

I'm still keen to watch each year though.

Molly is the Aussie driver mentioned. Her inspiration has been her mum who was a successful rally navigator, presumably with dad driving. Molly has made a name for herself in electric vehicle rally driving.

The first night is an introduction usually. We record the lot then watch it. A normal episode starts with the bikes then buggies and cars, utes the at the end the trucks which is usually a short segment unless they change it this year.

Well the Dakar is over and now we start watching it. We always record the show and then watch a smuch or as little as we like.. Early days for us but have been impressed by the Audi electric cars but the suspension appears to be a bit weak. Also the Hybrid Hino, what a truck. 800hp electric engines and 200hp diesel. Claimed 0 - 100 kph in 2 seconds, WOW.
