Help please :), old 6x6, RFW ?, Master Motors ? was created by vicbittertoo
Gday,
new member here, hope everyone is well ,
Might have the opportunity to acquire this fine old gal, I think its a Custom Carrier by Master Motors, or possibly an RFW.
I'm hoping to have a good look later in the week and will check for build plates, etc, its a bit of a hike.
the photos were taken by a mate that found it in remote WA.
Seems to be a fairly heavy duty rig, has the Rockwell toploader diffs, Detroit 6V53, Allison trans. might have been a drill or associated support truck
I'm very keen to rescue and restore as there are very few of these types of rigs left anywhere, maybe because they aren't such a thing of like an old Diamond Reo, etc.
So, if any of you fine folks have any ideas or info I'd really appreciate it,
cant wait for the skinned knuckles, expense and general headaches that will be a guaranteed part of such a project.
Cheers to all,
Dave B

Vic
Instead of starting a new thread insert your limit of 5 photos and submit.
Then go to your post when it comes up and just click on "Reply Topic" at the bottom and put up another 5.
Keep "Reply Topicing" until you run out of images. More photos the better but just 5 at a time.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Hello Vicbittertoo,
Like Lang said with the photos. Welcome to the forum.
I have not heard o master Motors, they sound like a dealer or similar.
I never met Robert (Bob) F. White of RFW who was a brilliant designer of specialist vehicles in Sydney but I was a mate of Gregor Rusden in Melbourne who told me a lot about him. Gregor said that Bob was a very moody old fellow, at least in the last years of his life . Gregor, who ran Rusden Engineering took over RFW when Bob could no longer design or build. Gregor was also a brilliant man who built three six by six roadrailer crane trucks for the Queensland Railways and died when a prototype four-wheel-drive RFW fire truck he built on a Tatra (I think) chassis he brought out from Czechoslovakia, without an engine, skidded on black ice and crashed on the way to demonstrations on his way to the South Australian Forestry Commission. Gregor had spent several very long days assembling the vehicle to have it ready and worked all night before driving it to SA.

Welcome, Vic..
I'm fairly certain It's NOT a RFW. Looks to Me, that It was a Crane In an earlier Life. then set up as a Watercart..
I've also merged your two Threads together!

That old girl wasn't found around Leonora or Laverton way, was she?
Looks a bit like an old water cart built on a Crane Carrier chassis, had a six banger Nissan engine and did service up around Sunshine mine, I know you said a V653, could have been a repo wer? That added bit behind the drivers cab
was originally for the dog man/ offsider?
Just a WAG, prolly a few of them getting around out there?
