To my way of thinking, the cab, and windows especially, are all wrong for a crane, visibility would be very poor, unless the crane was operated from outside. Of course the cab might have been re-styled for a second life, just as it may have been re-powered, but if not a re-power, i think a GM would be a very poor choice of engine for constant light crane work.

Just thinking out loud.

Brett.

master motors was a WA low volume truck builder that was active from late 70s to early 90s, using proprietary parts, various Inter cabs, etc.
They mainly built all wheel drive specialised trucks like western power cherry pickers, pole trucks, drill rig carriers, etc, there just about no info about them and occasionally they come up at auctions.
The build plates here arent off the actual truck :), just for info about master motors.

Big Thanks for all the info, just waiting to hear back from the owner, fingers crossed :):):)

My bet would be that it would have been a drill rig when built.

yeah, thanks, reckon you're right, would fit with the location,
Ross Atkins (Bluebird mine) had a few drills and support vehicles on similar carriers nearby years ago :)
cheers

Welcome to the Forum n hooe you can start skinning your knuckkes soon.
It build suits a drilling rig to stack the pioes beside the cab, not unlike the okd steel carters trucks did

The original motor was a Continental R6602.....petrol.........most of the conversions Ive seen done in Oz used a 6v53,mounted very high to clear the front diff ..........later ones in Oz were Cummins 250 or GM6-71 powered (original) .........these are the MAP models .....the US army models had the 465T C-H diesel...........Major Motors imported hundreds of the petrol ones ex Phillipines and SVN in the 1970s.........there are lots about with military cabs,or rebuilt as forward controlls .

It is not a RFW
That’s a Custom Carrier built in Perth

RFW # 116 - 4x2

A number of other makers used the 5Ton 6x6 chassis ......one odd one I actually supplied diff centres for was Andy Postons trucks .....Belgian made Mols .....using a Deutz diesel and ZF box .......another type Ive seen was US built unit called a Zeligson ......they all seem to have used full air brakes
