Cat 3406 problems was created by pete the pirate
Considering buying a truck with a Cat 3406A. Anyone had experience with these engines and known problems things to look for etc. horsepower would be useful as well.

hi there i drove one in an anteater t 6oo kenworth sydney to brisbane for four years had like 8oo.000kms on it prior to my driving it never had a problem owner said it had only routine maintaince in the 8 years he had it rated at 400 hp i think was the most reliable one of 4 trucks he had one breakdown only not engine related little balljoint part up under dash works clutch linkage snapped then no clutch great when stopped at traffic lights in peak hour and fully loaded got mechanic out he had a box full of the parts said every third callout was this problem cheers ray

The A & B series 3406's NEED regular bearing rolls,

Hi I've got a 3406B @ 400 hp, 200,000 since a rebuild, what exactlely do you mean by "regular bearing rolls"?

Wouldyou,
From Memory, Cat used to recommend A bearing roll for the A series every 400,000Km..
& ( I think ) the same sort of intervals on the B series..

An owner-driver at our company had an S106 Foden with a Cat 3406A. Did well over a million km with no problems at all; bearings were done at 400,000km intervals as has been mentioned.

Hey there Vic, Johnny maintained his truck to the specs and was rewarded with great reliability, from memory it was 400 hp , 9 speed R/R, 3406B.
