I have been on that Rubicon road, but 40 years ago, and predating the artwork.
I was going for Wiluna, then scrolled down to type, and found that everyone else had got there.
Years ago, Greyhound ran a through bus over Gunbarrel Hwy, but did the key section at night.
A more-recent service looked tempting, until I found that the key section is done by air.
Wiluna is important for aviation: it is a refuelling point for light aircraft, and medium commercial aircraft, heading from WA to Qld.
Way back, it was the terminus of a railway from Perth. That line was cut back to Meekatharra.

I don't believe that Greyhound ever ran their coach over the genuine (as in Len Beadell) Gunbarrel Hwy, which can be doable in a 2wd, but certainly not advisable! Greyhound did run tours down through Giles, Warburton & Laverton, and I know a person who travelled on one of those trips, and they were calling it the Gunbarrel Hwy, but it wasn't. (I also hear that the pub at Wiluna is closed, and the Shire have taken it over as their office.)
