My stepson restored a '64 Lark that was originally a S.A. ambulance. It had a fibreglass panel-van style body. It had the Studebaker V8 .. but I understand quite a few of the last of the Studeys had Chev 283's fitted, when Studebaker were about to hit the wall.

One of the nicest Studeys I ever saw, belonged to a local doc when I was an early teenager, in the early 60's.
It was a 2-door GT Hawk, and it was a magnificent car then, and still would be now. I often wonder what happened to it.

Roger that kirky, i read some where a long time ago, that later on they had no one on there design team that actually enjoyed making cars, and the design team treated it just as a job, with no interest in the vehicles at all, "the begining of the end" :'( , they made some kool cars early on, my favourite was the starlight coupe in the bulletnose ,49/50 i think, although the gt hawk that ron spoke of, was pretty neat, i think there was a factory paxton supercharger option aswell in that model

Chocs - Yes, the Studey V8 was a 259 cu in. Studebaker closed its South Bend Indiana plant in 1963, and that was the end of GT Hawk production.
Studebaker consolidated all production from Dec '63 into their Hamilton, Ontario plant, and all these last Canadian Larks were Chev-powered.
