A Wotsit for the Ute Brigade

A Wotsit for the Ute Brigade was created by VicHung
Here is a ute seen on the back of a trailer on the Inter-Island ferry in NZ a couple of days ago, heading off to a happy new owner in the South Island. I do know what it is because the owner told me but I certainly wouldn't have otherwise. Do you?

Hi Tim
No sorry, it's not. A clue, it's a Pommie lorry.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Looks a lot like a Standard, to me.
Sankey wheels look Pommie, as a clue.
I forget what I have read about the Standard Car Company but I am fairly sure they merged with Vanguard.

No it's not a Standard, Morris although I admit it looks a bit similar to some of their old models. Standard merged with Triumph; there was never (as far as I know) a Vanguard Motor Company. Vanguard was a model name of one of Standard's cars, the Standard Vanguard; not a bad car either, with a Ferguson tractor engine.

Sorry, Slim. I'll give the answer tomorrow if no one has got it by then. It is (or was) actually a reasonably common make of English car
