Hamish wins again. I will have to get away from military vehicles to give the others a chance. This truck is currently for sale $5,000 on USA eBay.

Looks like the legs lay on the deck each side of the turn table. The support pole looks telescopic so could be laid on the deck also after they pulled the frame back.

Do think the winch is elec or does it run off the transmission ?? and it has a transmission brake interesting . Dave

I would bet almost certainly power take-off but you are throwing doubt on the set-up - it sure looks like an electric motor?? Looks like a WW2 wrecker winch.

That winch is not part of the original vehicle spec, so could well be electric driven, not PTO.

n the gin poles when disconected B lowered down by snatch block @ rear ...... n placed one each side of the cab with the loose chain hang n in pic B to hold m down n in place

The doo hicker that you are mistaking for an electric motor is a "Worm Brake". The Olding Garwoods had them as well. Depends on the ratio as to the angle the teeth are cut on the worm wheel as too weather they will roll back or not. The 20,000lb Olding Garwoods in the Aussie Army ACCO's are 40:1 and need a brake to stop them rolling back, an Australian Thomas or APE 20,000 lb winch is 50:1 and doesn't need the brake.
