Any 6 cylinder Inter ( Especially 281..282 &283 motors) all smoked on start up...If it only smokes on start up and not all the time , leave it alone and save yourself a lot of money. Enjoy it for what it is!

I put some nulon 'no more smoke' in it last week & it has stopped it blowing smoke for now. I am getting closer to getting it blue slipped so I'm not touching the engine .
I've just been trying to get some prices on a rebuild kit , but the prices for these 281 engines are expensive, unlike the dodges with the slant 6, or hemi 6, the parts are very cheap & available ..

I don't imagine there would be much demand for standard size, but then I wonder if you could bore a 240 out and fit a 281 crank? (I have same lying around).

Some of the army 282 motors had twin carbs up until recently there was a guy selling those manifolds cheap
