BEDFORD BUS INFO was created by plod
Hi Guys, I have a Bedford BLP coach/motor home with a 500 motor, 5 speed o/d g/box and a 5.2 ratio single speed diff. It's ok on the flat but not much chop uphills etc and have been told a 2 speed diff is the answer. Is this true and where can I get one from. Any comments would be much appreciated. Cheers, Plod. PS. I am in WA.

it sounds like you beddy has tall gearing . . another option would be to turbo it so you have more grunt for the hills

You didn't say how many tonnes you are trying haul up the hills. More gears will help you maintain speed over short rises but for long uphill drags more horses is the only answer.

Thanks for that. The total weight is about 10 tonne. It seems that as soon as get to a hill I've got to change down one or 2 gears. I have been told that the 500 cid motor in my bus is not suitable for turbo charging. Thanks again, Plod.
