Bugley's post in Historic Trucks re IH 392 V8s and Oldfella's YouTube clip reminded me-
Anybody got some history on A series Macks in Oz?
I have learned Maranoa Tpt had them before Westerns took them over. But info (and Oz pics in particular) seem hard to find.
I believe they set up the B series- BIDSTBC.
And don't stop counting the rivets and changing gears either you KW blokes.
Thanx in advance
Cheers

There were a few here in Tassie. Reynolds had some on logs and one was up north here as a ripper, now owned by Dick Beckett ..... To be restored.
Here is the link to a few I took of it
truckmadpeople.smfforfree3.com/index.php/topic,40.0.html
They were made from 1950 til 1953 when the B model was introduced. They basically used the E model cab with the American LJ model front tin work.

Interesting pictures Werkhorse, the yellow one is probably an A51S model with an END510 Lanova motor. There is a B41X single drive tipper in New Zealand with the 510 Lanova motor. It was brought in from the States by Clive Taylor and is now owned by Bill Hammond of Waipukurau, Central Hawkes Bay. I had thought all B model diesels had the later Thermodyne direct injection motor, but this one definitely has a Lanova type.

Got a vague idea that Alastair grant from the sunshine coast may have had a restored A model in his collection.

Alastair Grant def had an A model proudly displayed next to his B model. both painted in Western Transport Golden Yellow and Black. I think he drove for Western Transport from memory. Alastair was a hard old bastard, but I had a lot of respect for him. I will dig the photo up shortly.
