Hi swishy, few were for sale & all in about the same nic for under 5k, by the time you took it for a swim you would,nt get much change out of 15k landed. Was just surprised there were so many still out there. But in the states there were heaps of most things i thought were pretty rare. Can,t wait to get back there.

Here are a few more. I think we may have seen a couple before.

Have a look at the steam shovel movie in the Tractors thread to show what these monsters looked like in operation.
And here we have the full Mack/Steam Shovel (clam-shell bucket) operation in real life. The ride must have been pretty rough as the truck does not bounce one millimetre as 1,500kg of dirt is dropped in the back!

Swishy,
What is a dragline when they take off the drag bucket and put on a clamshell does it just become a crane?
Most of the canals on the Gold Coast which were not built with sand pumping dredges were done by these clam-shell buckets. Even many pumped ones got their final underwater profiles from land based clamshell cranes.
Fascinating watching them work as they can throw the bucket amazing distances and are as accurate as a fly fisherman. I will see if I can find footage of them at work.
Here is a drag line bucket on its way to clean out a few creeks and dams.

...draglines and their form of mobility would be an absolutely fascinating adjunct to this forum...if only because of their apparently outmoded way of shifting product....
