When was road tax introduced, the government charged trucks for how any miles they done in a book and the DMR would drive around and pulling over trucks and checking the had the trip entry in there book, because it was classed as competition for the railway, they abolished it in the in the early 70’s or late 60’ , someone could correct the year ......

Road tax was abolished as a result of the Razorback blockade in 1979 ,But. the bloody Wran government introduced an extra tax on diesel to compensate there loss

The NSW road tax was declared unconstitutional by the Hughes and Vale decision,but the NSW government and the railways wouldnt give up....they kept bringing in variations that were thrown out in court,and finally came up with a "road maintenance tax".....but the basis of the tax could not be a levy on trade between the states ....Section 92 of the constitution.
