Here in Australia there are hundreds of that type of horse carrier (more often on a rigid body). People go to shows all over the country and have a small living section in front of the horse box. Some of those have seating for travel but most are just caravan living areas.

The racehorse transports had one or more strappers or attendants compartments.
They can hold the lead through a window from the horse bay into the compartment.
Often the horse is clipped by a chain to the halter and the door closed.
Usually a bench seat across the vehicle, which doubled as a bunk for longer trips.
Space under the seat for gear, feed and water tank.
