Just checked out a few more references. Some US self-propelled artillery were powered by the 8V71T as far back as 1963, or at least that's when the vehicles entered service, so I'm assuming they were the original power-plants. The reference indicates they were rated at 405hp @ 2,300rpm.

Had Chat to Reg Anderson Some time ago and he mentioned after buying his ex ghost he replaced the spent 8v71 with an 8v71T, (from memory I think he had the motor brought in from the US? )
Reg also mentioned how quick it was, suggesting he had to brake going up hills!!....
