The Winton (a later model) was the first car to cross USA from west coast to east.
The price shows how much more we get for a car these days. $1,000 in 1898 is around $30,000 now. Think how much better a little modern $15,000 car is than this bicycle with a lawnmower motor for double the price.
Model T's were famously cheap but they were still more expensive (in dollar buying power) than a modern small car.
PS Rod I clicked on "Send for a Catalogue" but the link did not work. Could you PM me the correct link.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I remember that in 1977 or thereabouts, AMI Toyota were advertising the KE30 Corolla with the wording that it was reliable and would start every day. I commented at the time that as cars had been around for over eighty years, that a new car buyer should expect those features!

Back when they sold you a vehicle to for-fill a purpose, as opposed to the dream
lifestyle fashion accessories they market today.

When I was a kid many moons ago, my father had a Holden agency. One of the very first in Australia. In 1949 to 50 or so, you would pay my Dad 25 pounds deposit and wait 2 years for your new car. Cop that.

I do not think they were getting those features on UK made cars though.
