Thanks Lang
First pic- not sure what breed or top speed but it must have hit something pretty hard & pretty fast to do that much damage. No crumple zones in those days.
Further on- young lady I think laying under vehicle.
Not sure what else other than jack holding it all up.
Brings shivers.
In my youth, in a hurry, unfamiliar with jack & too stupid to get the right one.
Changing left steer- in from the front. Went in under the bull bar to do something with the wheel already off.
Felt a bit of pressure on my lower back.
Outa there like a shot, as the b*@($%d thang decided to kneel down
Be careful folks
Lesson learned and my own stupid fault, bit shaky at the knees for a while.

Found a photo of a nice 1938 Ford ute. Poor old cab roof would be buggered.

And another - Plymouth. I think this is the vehicle the girls Tired Iron was worried about were working on. The "crane" is a support for a Bren Gun operated by a bloke standing in the roof hatch. Blitz also had the same hoist arrangement. Bloody useless so nearly all of them were thrown away.

I think all the pre-1930 utes shown arte Model T Fords, including the one with a drum of water instead of a radiator!
The truck carrying a ute is probably a Leyland.
The formidable lady from the Comfort Support group certainly has an overload on her 1937-38 Morris 8. Either it has no handbrake and is using the Wolseley for support, or the Wolseley is using the Morris!

You can probably identify the later vehicles.

By the way, the first motor vehicle operated by the Australian Army was a 1908 Tarrant car, built and donated by Colonel Harley Tarrant who after demob, set up Tarrant Motors in Melbourne and built his Tarrant cars there.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!
