We watched a show on trains a long time back and it was over in the Nodic countries. They loaded trailers full of fresh fish using overhead gantry cranes and forklifts to place them on special carriages just like in many photos already posted. I took 3 engines to drag the loaded carriages up off the coast then it was down to only 2 engines for the rest of the trip.

I'm inclined to the view that this activity took place in continental Europe, particularly as SNCF (French) railway wagons are involved. Our UK track gauge 0f 4' - 8-1/2" (1435 mm) is the same as Europe along with buffer and coupling heights and widths also standard. The problem is that as the pioneer of railways as we know them, we made the mistakes by having a smaller load gauge profile. Here we have a maximum width of 9' (2.75 mm) and 13' (3.96 mm) height for railway vehicles. However, in Europe they can go to a width of up to 3.15 meters width and 4.4 metres height. Containers can be carried by rail here, but they have special low bogie wagons with smaller than normal wheel diameters to do it.
