Yes the Hume has flooded for years here. The biggest difference from when it happened earlier was the waters came reasonably slow and there was a place for it to drain quickly beyond the railway. When those 2 pictures were taken they had just installed those stupid new catch fences on both sides of the 2 lanes (you can just see the line in the picture) with the sudden downfall came the Londrigan paddock debris and clogged all the older water drainage channels, which the new catch fence held like a dam.Flooded in those areas in 1980.
Southbound from Sydney with horses, radio reports from Albury down warning of water over the road. Had to be through Benalla before 2 am as the road was to be closed. Long stretches with water about a foot deep.

Lang, going back about 14 pictures (the one with the '33 Ford alongside some pumps) what is the brand of fuel from the middle pump?

The Cook's Service Station photo? I reckon the double bowser looks like Shell?
Or the photo with the Chev truck? I reckon the middle pump is Shell "Super Charged".

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

There are certainly some memories there and now we complain when we hit a pothole at 100k.
I remember driving the Hume Highway from Melbourne to Sydney in the early 1970s and just over the border at Albury the highway became little more than a goat track.
