For those taking part in this run from the city to Cape Shank on the 28th October ignore the press reports saying all vehicles will be in place by 11am. It is expected the first cars will start arriving around 11am with the majority in by midday.
Iain Ross told me the press release said vehicles will be arriving from 11am which, with the usual journalist's accuracy has been turned into all vehicles will be present by 11am. Considering we are leaving Linlithgow avenue at 9:30am for a drive of over 90km and Morning tea in Frankston without using Citylink (or potentially other freeways as the idea is to get the public to see as many vehicles as possible) the reported arrival time of 11am is unrealistic for most.
The full kits will arrive in about the middle of this month and detail the full route. I will list it here when it arrives for anyone interested in having a look.

The Route as promised
Pre 1930 vehicles timings (first vehicle depart)
9:30 Depart Monash University Frankston Campus on Frankston-Flinders Rd to Mooruduc Highway
9:41 Mooroduc Highway Sages Rd cnr continueing down Moorooduc Highway
10:09 Turn from Moorooduc Highway into Old Moorooduc Rd
10:25 Back on Nepean Highway
10:35 Past Drive-in Theatre
10:40 Bear onto Pt Nepean Rd
10:57 Rosebud Shopping Strip
11:01 Turn into Boneo Rd
11:36 Turn into Cape Shanck Rd and park at RACV Cape Shanck Resort
1830- 1958 vehicles
9:30 Depart Linlithgow Avenue and head down St. Kilda Rd
9:41 passing through Elsternwick Junction on Nepean Highway
9:50 Pass South Rd
10:22 Frankston shopping strip
10:26 Monash University for Morning tea then same route as above to the Resort
I think these times are a bit ambitious for 200 vehicles leaving Linlithgow avenue and going via the stop start traffic lights for 40 km to get to Frankston. I expect the majority of vehicles will hit Cape Shanck resort around 12:00 to 12:30

some photos of the event (so not all truck and not all the trucks that were there (some where not possible to photograph due to the parking arrangements) Also the times allowed didn't help as most were later and heaps missed
their preallocated lunch spots.
We left as the 4th vehicle in the post 1950 group. By the time we were allowed to leave it was 9:40. We got to the Morning tea stop and both headed for rest room. By time my wife Mrs P got out of the queue I had made and finished my coffee (she didn't want one) so we went straight back to the truck and continued arriving at Cape Shanck at 12:45. Luckily we were on the 1pm lunch sitting. Several people who arrived after us were in the 12pm sitting and I am not sure if they got fed or not. The route was boring to drive mainly traffic light stop/start and abuse from people in modern vehicles as us oldies were in their way. Given there were more interesting routes available (such as climbing Arthurs Seat) it was a bit disappointing. To come home we turned right onto Boneo Rd and went through Flinders and Hastings and back up the freeway There were more hills and corners and it was a lot more fun to drive than being caught in shopping traffic. I actually enjoyed the drive home whereas the drive down was tedious. :-[
The start was at Linlithgow avenue. Each of the 3 lines as over 1km long

Hi Mr "B", this why i don't like the "Fly the Flag" run which runs from the City to Mornington it's to many stop and go lights i made sugestion to the organzers to take route along the bay but they look at me blankly.
Yes i think any day run by the RCVC & AMOC combine will always be a balls up as they to many entries and don't allow for distant and other road users.
If they want to make this like the BAY TO BIRDWOOD they need to there act together.DAVE

page 17 has the most truck photos but they are also on pages 11, 13, 14,25,30,34,37 and probably others

Given the rather extreme amount of cars (sorry but...yawn!), perhaps the judges had an extreme car focus so when it came to judging the commercial vehicles maybe they stuck with what they knew. Amazon takes the cake for me!

Andy I think you have hit the nail on the head. They don't understand what makes a good commercial!
In my mind (might be bit biased due to having a thornycroft!) but from what I saw in the pictures the Amazon would be my selection. (sorry bparo! I know your truck was there but... the amazon!)
I would classify the hearst or whatever it was as a car! As it is based on a car chassie and is really in my mind a station wagon!
Lets face it a commercial should be classified as a goods carrying vehicle either on its chassis or towed behind. Does that mean that coffins are classified as goods? Or should it be classified as a bus for carrying people?
Sorry getting bit annoyed as everytime we take our commercials to these types of events generally Car based vehicles always seem to get the commercial vehicle awards. Especially the organisers of this event and another one in a similar area. However I also don't believe in judging of vehicles as it will always create a certain amount of friction. Plus none of my vehicles would ever get a award.
Also I noticed in one of the professional photos (see www.morriemathews.com/automotive/RACV_Ci...7/cat1/albums13.html ) what appears to be a brand new Hummer truck! Thought it was pre 1955 or something for this event!

JBlair,
I agree the amazon is amazing. I would have rated my truck as the worst truck there for appearance but it did make the distance without a problem which to me is more important than looks as it is reliable (thanks to the help of others)
The Amazon looks good and is reliable and is what I aim to get my Inter to one day. In fact, of the commercial vehicles the only one that broke down (several times) took out a prize and was arrogant on the road too, cutting people off, abusing trucks for using 2 lanes to turn hard left etc - not really the image I thought the old vehicle movement wanted to display. Add to that that it is used for funerals 2-3 times a week (according to the driver and passenger) but is on club plates is an abuse of the scheme. It is people like this that will end up getting the scheme abolished forcing us all onto full registration. Apparently one of their breakdowns was the fault of the trucks being too slow even though we were all caught up in traffic at the Frankston Shopping Centre and unable to move at the time!! :
If it had been a static display I could understand the judges decision as the hearse did look great but it was not appropriate for it to win a prize on a run like this
Regarding the Hummer. It turned up at Linlithgow Avenue with a trailer of 3 vintage motorbikes which were driven from Melbourne to Franskton where they gave up and put them on the trailer behind it due to having mechanical issues and feeling unsafe amongst the drivers of modern vehicles (not those on the run).
The photographer should hae been photographing the contents of the trailer not the vehicle although that may be a bit hard when they are on the move. There is also a photo in there of an HX/HZ Holden that was not on the run so I suspect the photographer did not know his vehicles and anything old or unusual was photographed. I am toying with the idea of getting a copy of the Inter photos as fridge magnets.
It was interesting listening to people. Mrs P. was wearing her IH Club Shirt and was asked what sort of car was made by International Harvester by a lady. "I didn't come in a car I came in our 1955 Truck" was th e proud reply. "Ooh why would you want to come on one of them for!!" was the ladies sarcastic reply. 'Be nice, It is big enough to put our car on the back and take it home if we break down" was her husbands reply. The lady shut up while Hubby askled Mrs P more details about the Inter. I think he is planning to come and look at our display day for something different.

I am not 100%sure if it was on club plates as it never left me enough space when it changed lanes to see below the back windows and then it usually stopped - broken down, that is how I knew it broke down at least 3 times.
