Bride’s close call as limo bursts into flames on Mountain Highway, Sassafras.
Sat. December 19, 2015 Free Press Leader (with a video, and five comments).
A BRIDE has had a lucky escape when the stretch limo she was in burst into flames this afternoon.
Witness Abram Lewis was driving along Mountain Highway in Sassafras two cars behind a stretch Hummer when it caught fire.
He said the car in front of him overtook the limo when he saw it burst into flames.
The driver, believed to be the bride’s dad, stopped in front of the Hummer and told everyone to get out.
“The fire started really small and everyone was scrounging for an extinguisher but after five minutes the front tyres blew out and then the fire got bigger and spread to the cabin,” he said.
The CFA got there and luckily stopped the fire spreading into the national park.
“The CFA guys were amazing, they put it out in less than 10 minutes,” Mr Lewis said.
He said the hummer had more than a dozen people — a bridal party, including the bride, and children.
He said no one was injured and no one was in the car when it fully caught alight.

I'm dual posting this, as party buses are more akin to super-stretched limos than they are to modern urban route buses.

160313Su Melbourne 'Herald Sun': Ford Falcon GT wedding car. I don't know if this is private, or if it is now commercial (a modern classic, like all those 1950s ones in the wedding-hire market).

Wedding cars are a personal thing

When I got married I wanted something different from the white limo's so as I had a black NC Fairlane and the time I hired 2 more for the actual wedding (mine was the getaway car) and we used the 2 Jim Beam trucks as they belonged to a family friend and were maintained by my workshop at the time

A mate of mine (and some others on this forum) had what I think is the best weeding Ive been to as a guest and used my truck

740121M Melbourne (Vic.) Spencer St: SA Governor Sir Mark Oliphant is carrying his grandson to see the loco and thank the viceregal driver before boarding the waiting (1971-73 Ford Galaxie?). Not a Rolls Royce for a state governor, but still classier than a Holden Statesman. (Roderick Smith)

It isn't a hired car or limousine, but I do admire the style.

20/05/2018 Cars of the Royal Wedding
Before all the pomp and ceremony occurred at St George’s Chapel, the Royals – and others - had to get to the church on time in a fleet of fancy cars.
* 1950 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Car. Markle’s long ride from Clivedon House to St George’s Chapel was in the lap of luxury, a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce that is among the rarest of its kind.
The 1950 Phantom IV (above), with a hand-built body by H J Mulliner, was purchased by Queen Elizabeth when she was still a princess and became her preferred State Limousine upon her Coronation in 1952.
Just 18 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV models were built between 1950 and 1956, each powered by a 5.7-litre straight eight-cylinder engine and were exclusively available to Heads of State or members of ruling Royal Families.
* Bentley Mulsanne. Markle’s mother, Daria, escorted the Hollywood starlet for most of the journey in the back seat of the Phantom. However, she was moved into her own Bentley Mulsanne upon arrival at Windsor Castle.
The Mulsanne is one of the most expensive and opulent new cars on sale today, costing more than $650,000 in standard form.
* Bentley Golden Jubilee. While Queen Elizabeth provided her soon-to-be daughter-in-law with the Rolls, the Monarch chose a more modern State Limousine, a bespoke Bentley that was presented to her by the British automotive industry as gift to celebrate her Golden Jubilee in 2002. The hand-crafted vehicle is based on a Bentley Arnage R, but features unique bodywork that makes it longer and taller than the standard model while the massive 6.75-litre V8 has been modified to produce more power and torque. The car is armour-plated and the cabin can be sealed with its own oxygen supply. Just two Bentley State Limousines were built.
* Mercedes-Benz V-Class. Prince Harry kept his arrival at St George’s Chapel rather low key, alighting from a black Mercedes-Benz van alongside his brother Prince William.
* Jaguar E-Type. It was a different story, however, when Harry and his princess bride left for their reception in a stunning Jaguar E-Type roadster.
The classic convertible is considered one of the most beautiful cars ever created – even Enzo Ferrari, the eponymous figurehead of the famed Italian sportscar brand, said as much when the car was first unveiled.
In a nice twist of fate, the British-built machine was an American left-hand drive version. The car was an electric conversion. Watching them drive away was eerily silent.
* Range Rover Vogue. Behind every one of the Royal limousines was a fleet of Range Rovers driven by the British secret service, royal guards and police.
The iconic SUV is the vehicle of choice for the job because it can go anywhere – and quickly – yet not look out of place among the world’s most luxurious vehicles.
