Just looked at our stats down the bottom of the forum page.
Wow. Nearly 1800 members.
Congratulations to ALL members and contributors. I think you should ALL be proud of the way this forum is conducted. There is a "little" slinging off at each other, but on the other hand, help is always available when asked.
Well done. Rod.

The reason the site is coming up fast in Google search results, is because we discuss a lot of things about trucks and tractors, and manufacturers, that people want to know.

Things such as .. who built what and when? .. where can I find a certain part? .. what do model codes mean? .. how can I identify this truck/part/what's in this picture?

These are all questions that people want answered, so they type their question or search term into Google, and google goes searching its database.
When Google starts getting a lot of searches using the same or similar search terms, they start fine-tuning their search results.

If they see that the HCVC forum site has a lot of the answers, or near answers, to search queries, the site goes up rapidly in Googles ranking.
This site is now very high in Googles ranking as a useful source for search results, relating to terms involving trucks and tractors.

Many forums will not allow major public access to their forums, and many will not allow search bots to crawl their forums.
This is a disappointment in some ways, as there is a vast treasure-trove of knowledge out there, but a lot of it, is locked away.

The ACME tractor forum is full of a vast amount of knowledge relating to crawlers, but it is largely locked away from searchbots, due to the webmaster and site owner deciding to limit searchbot access.

This is a two-edged sword, allowing searchbot access. There are millions of spammers and hackers out there, who are totally intent on invading any forum, where they can get major exposure to tens of millions of people.

People marketing products .. from illegal Viagra, p*rn, Chinese trinkets, el-cheapo parts .. right through to dating agencies .. all want that free exposure to tens of millions of people. It's a gold mine to them. They get exposure to potential buyers, that would otherwise cost them tens of thousands of dollars.

Then there's the dark side of the 'net. There are hundreds of thousands of scammers out there who make a tidy living, or make it their lifes aim, to scam people out of money, with offers that are too good to be true (and they always are) .. or to just invade a website and cause major disruption, by hacking into it and defacing it .. or worse, redirecting forum users to websites that download viruses and other nasties.

The ACME site became a constant target of the spammers for a long period of time. They were nearly always based in SE Asia, and they always tried to infiltrate the forum and then post crap, such as gaming site advertising, or viagra sales .. by spending time registering a false user name, and then getting access to the forum.

Webmasters have to be on the alert 24/7/365, to watch out for these ar$eholes who are intent on ruining our internet enjoyment.
As soon as any spammers or scammers are seen, they have to be taken down, fast. It's just like scrubbing off graffitti, 5 seconds after it's put up.
Sooner or later, the internet graffitti artists get sick of it, and move on to more-easily scammed and spammed sites.
It goes without saying, that you also keep a good anti-virus program operating on your computer, to watch out for suspicious activity by these human cockroaches.

It always amazes me how much this forum is contributing to the movement.

And it takes quite a bit of time from many people who regulary contribute to make this forum what it is today. To whom I thank for their continuing support. I'm now looking forawrd to the next 1000 members ;D

I still remember the first post and first member! Oops that would have been me just after creating the forum!

The first post? I think it was "does this post work". I think I did delete this post however! Had to test the delete procedure! ;D

Thank you all!

When I first found the MACK I typed in every different name I could think of regarding the model and every time HCVC came up in Google, and images like Swishy noted. The world is most definitely reading this forum.

This is a great forum. I'm not a club member but congratulations on maintaining a well run forum. I've been interested in the old car/truck/engine movement for the last 30 years (and I'm only 42). Can't afford to be a member of all clubs that take my interest, although I feel I can contribute positively by being a member of this forum type.

I do agree with onetrack regarding spammers though. Since I joined this forum (and I've been a member of other forums dating back to the very late 1990s), I've been receiving many more offers for Viagra; illicit drugs; penis enlargements; and cash from Nigerian widows than I've been used to... :o

Also just so you know- I didn't write 'thingy', the computer changed it to this. I wrote the anatomically correct term for wanger...

Collector and admirer of ye olde crappe.  I'm interested in researching and collecting old numb
