G'day Brett, how's it going Mate. I reckon you might be able to bring us all up to date on how much it costs to get sprung yappin on the fone & how many points are involved. Apart from that what's it worth to have the little lady alongside fillin your ear after the man in blue has gone on his merry way. Oh, yep nearly forgot, Merry Christmas Mate & a Happy New Year. Keep an eye on the mirror mate. cya Tim ;D ;D ;D >:( >:( >:(

Slim - Well, the law says using a mobile while you're driving is an offence. You get seen doing it by a copper, you're pinged, too easy.
That's enough to make me leave my phone alone when driving. Besides, car kits are available.

As for the rights and wrongs of using a phone while you're driving .. well .. we could argue about that, 'til the crows come home.
I agree, using a phone when you're on a long straight stretch of road, with no traffic seems pretty safe to me.
However, holding a phone to your ear often does reduce your peripheral vision .. and in traffic, you need all the peripheral vision you can get.

The thing about mobiles, is that people seem to forget about the world around them, when they're on a call .. unlike yapping to your passengers or adjusting the radio.
For some reason, mobiles seem to really affect peoples attention span to the road, and attention to their driving.

There are people in important positions who argue that using a mobile whilst driving, is no different to talking on a CB, adjusting the radio, etc.
My argument is, and the law agrees, that the distraction of holding and using a phone, is higher than any other distraction.
Naturally, we all know, that good driving skills, means practising the art of ignoring distractions, and concentrating on driving.

Schlumberger have an in-house driver-training program that is very good .. and one thing their program features, big-time, is how to avoid distractions and concentrate on driving.
They will have an instructor with you who skylarks around, telling you to .. "look at this!" - and "look at that!" .. who pulls on the handbrake, and rips the stereo up to full bore.
All these things are done to ensure that you recognise distractions, and in particular, passengers who are distracting in themselves .. and teaches you to take control of disruptive passengers .. to ignore distractions .. and to concentrate on removing the distraction, and to concentrate on your driving.
Adding mobile phone use to the mix is just one more distraction that isn't needed, in heavy trafffic conditions.

I think we all need to start off with, and keep up, good driving habits .. not only as a guide to the young drivers coming on .. but because our driving habits often deteriorate into one or more bad habits over the years .. and once you fall into bad driving habits, an accident generally isn't too far off.

My 2 cents worth ...Tax free for xmas

Any distraction can B dangerous for drivers
but th@ depends on the driver if it is a distraction
technically U not spose to use a hand held device to talking
But there R exemtions
an escort vehicle driver can legally talk while drive n on Cb etc
Cops can also use m
so I dont C how sum can n others cannot
but for most phones can B a distraction from drivin
If U wann C sum distraction jist drive along Beach Rd Port Melbourne on any hot sunny day n take a gander of all the bikinis (or lack of tops)
