I would like to let you know after a proper search on the IP address during the afternoon the dude was dubious and has been chopped.

I would also like to say sorry to you Ron if I seemed a little harsh.
Im sure you understand we cant just chop every single thing that everyone thinks is dubious without du diligance.

Regards,
Basil

Like I said, I can spot 'em a mile off. My spammer/scammer antenna is a finely tuned device .. ;) ;)

Interestingly, a Google search (of the username) is often as good as any, because the spammers/scammers are dumb enough to leave an easily-found trail of forums and sites they visit, and register on.
When you find a serious number of websites where the same username has been registered .. but little activity has taken place on the forum by that user .. BINGO!! .. :D

Baz, apology accepted, no problems here .. thanks.

Cannot always jump onto a conclusion Though ...
I had one on a forum I was sure just had to go.
Deleted him.
Got email from him two days later.
He's now a major contributor, and is on my list for Mod duties as the forum grows.

Be it firearms or V8 engines, the question is not "why should you have them?"
, but "who are you to demand that I justify them?"

We have a spam filter on our site for suspect language use, We did have a problem with spammers until we employed the approval for all new members and asked each to add their phone numbers. We don't call them but spammers wont add one or will make an obvious dodgy one, usually the email host location will give them away as well. I had an IP tracker but thought it to intrusive and offloaded it.

Professional pothole dodger!

Here`s a link to show how to interpret your E Mail headers for those who don`t already know.
In your Mail Client <program> you need to have enabled View > Headers > All, ---so you will see the information.

The rest is shown in this link.
www.emailquestions.com/full-email-header...l-headers-email.html

You can also do a *Whois* look up as explained in this link.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whois .

Here`s a methods page setup to use.
whois.domaintools.com/

A list of domain name examples is down this page a bit.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country_code_top-level_domain

Not to forget that spam and the like can still come from some one else`s hacked server room and the company that owns the legitimate domain may be quite unaware of it.

But this is a start for those who are interested.

The use of your ISP server side spam protection service is also worth considering and works quite well IMHO.
The usual the caveat applies---- * if it looks too good to be true it probably ---<almost certainly >--- is*----.
As *onetrack* says , a Google search often helps a fair bit as well.
And 99% of the wankers can`t spell either, or have a couple of odd looking alpha characters in the message.

Dear friend you have just won ??? gimme a break!!!. >:( >:( >:( ;D
