I call it 'recycling'. Mainly because I use card that would normally be thrown out. However, I think the more common term would be "Scratch building". (I start from scratch).
Today, I had a crack at making an Air Horn. Using the end of a bamboo skewer, & cardboard ends.

(should look the part- once painted)

(as planned), added top coats today...
(along with grab handles, door handles, & VOLVO lettering)....The lettering isnt exact,..but cutting them out was a bit "fiddly". : (as was mixing the colours)..

The Air Horn (painted silver), kinda looks the part too. :

(Almost nearly,...but not quite) Finished...
Today, added lights, painted grab handles & wheels.
(just signwork, windows, mirrors, front guards & mud flapl to go) No pressure. :
