I seen a council bus with an engine fire in Brisbane a few months back
Too many to be a co-incidence. Whats going on ? A recall on the cards ?

Grab a drink, either hot or cold and frothy, and have a read.
www.otsi.nsw.gov.au/bus/Bus_Fires_NSW_05_12_Final.pdf
Page 35 has the most information on the cause of fires but is very loose in terms of percentages.

Interesting observation from page 35...
"there has been an apparent upward trend in the number of fires in recent years coincidental with the adoption of stringent emission standards."

With the price ticket of a new bus ( Maybe $500K ) would not an auto fire extinguisher system be a wise addition.

a couple of years back was heading down ring road in my truck when on the other side of the road a coach had pulled up and the flames were just appearing out of the rear wheel arch by the time i had gone a hundred metre's down the road to find a break in the armco and turned around the interior was on fire i hit it with a approx 1000 litres of water with no joy in the end the MFB used foam to pull it up could not believe how fierce the fire got in such a short time cheers whale
