according to a book I have "Waltzing Matildas" its about the 2/9th armoured regiment that served in the Pacific in WW2 it list in the back that between 1942 and 1986 the Australian Army purchased and owned 2300 tanks

Matilda 337
General Grant 757
General Stuart 369
Marmon Herrington 2man 138
Australian Tanks 4
Covenanter Bridge Laying 9
Staghound armoured cars 279
Canadian armoured cars 171
British armoured cars 7
Armoured landing vehicles 30
Centurions 100
Leopard 100
APC's 700

what all this means I have no idea but it doesnt look like we owned Sherman tanks or Canadian tanks but that doesnt mean a whole heap werent left here after the war Im to young to know and most the people that would know arent with us anymore so there would be a lot of guessing going on

but there was a lot of Grant tanks used in the Mallee for clearing and no doubt a whole heap of other things

I have noticed no bren gun carriers are listed maybe they were all purchased before 1942 and the Sentinel isnt listed I guess maybe the Army didnt buy them they had them made instead or maybe they were made before 1942 a lot of guess work thats for sure LOL
