An old mate of mine, Des Ryan,(now long gone), used to run Sydney to Perth in an S model Bedstead towing a two axle, single wheel dog trailer. Now that's a guy who deserved a medal.

And would imagine it would have been in a time when the Nullarbor was still mostly dirt. Better man than I in an S model!

trucks all went by the train in those days....from memory the rail line was washed out for a year about 1968/70 or so ,and the road had to be fixed.

I know it is not a truck but earlier I think it was mentioned about older vehicles not being used as a dailey driver.
Well one of the optometrists in Taree drives his late 1959's maybe early 60's Morris 1000 Van to work evey day. Even the signage on the van is faded and may be original from back when it was new. It always looks great but don't know if it is still a stocker or modified with the Datsun 1200 motor and gearbox.

if it was an old 6v VW then I would understand the not wanting to drive in the dark, it would have been like driving by candle power. Even my old FC Holden with globes for headlights were good enough for a young bloke with good eye sight to have a go at night.

Lucky the Stude has sealed beams - not too bad for 6 volts.

I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.
